Isaac has over 40 years’ experience in Insurance and Risk Management. He currently runs his own consultancy firm that specializes in Risk and Insurance Management. Being one of the first Kenyans to qualify as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London in the early 70’s, he carried out the baseline study used in drafting Kenya’s Insurance Act 1984.
He has been involved in carrying out feasibility studies and formulating strategy documents for both listed and non-listed insurance companies. As an academic, Isaac has been involved in developing insurance related curriculum for different Universities and Colleges. In 1973, Isaac was the Regional Director for Africa of CUNA Mutual Insurance Group of USA. His role entailed setting up risk management systems in 18 African countries.
Between 1996 & 1998, Isaac was the Statutory Director of Pioneer Assurance and Director of Shield Insurance from 2011-2014. Isaac was the Editor and Co-author of the Personal Insurances Handbook published by Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) and founder Editor of AKI’s journal and The Kenya Insurer. He was an insurance columnist of the Daily Nation from 1995 - 2014. He has been a Council Member of The Actuarial Society of Kenya and is currently a Director of Occidental Insurance Company Limited. He holds a Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance.
Richard has worked in the insurance and financial services industry since 1988. He is the lead trainer and project consultant at Will Ways Ltd., consulting, conducting training in strategy, leadership, performance management, distribution channel set ups, technical insurance and related financial services.
Was the Asst. General Manager of a leading Life Assurance Company in Kenya, ICEA LION Life Assurance Company Limited, in charge of Ordinary Life and Alternative Distribution Channels. Was also the Convener of Individual Life Committee and a member of Association of Kenya Insurers’ Life Insurance Council for 5 years. Was the Chairman of and a frequent publisher in the Kenyan insurance industry journal, the AKI Insurer, in addition to being a member of the Insurance Information Bureau and the Kenya National Insurance education Board. Continues to be the Chairman of Insurance Regulatory Life Business Committee.
A graduate of Business Administration and Economics; a certified ALMI, Associate of the Life Insurance and Management Institute., USA.
Joined the insurance industry, rising through the rank of life assurance sales, marketing and training, including being Regional Sales and Training Manager at British American Insurance Company (now Britam); Life Manager in charge of Ordinary Life, Credit Life and Alternative Distribution Channels at ICEA LION Life Assurance Company.
Extensively travelled, attending and participating in conferences in East Africa, South Africa; Mauritius; Hong Kong; Singapore; Malaysia and UK, among others. Widely conducted training of life agents and industry personnel in Kenya and Uganda.
George is a Financial Services and Human Resources management professional with over 22 years working experience in both the Corporate and NGO Sectors, serving in Human Resources and financial services management, recently at Old Mutual Kenya. He is a certified trainer in Bancassurance from the Chartered Institute of UK (CII) and Emotional Intelligence from the Hay Group in South Africa.
He has an MBA degree from LaSalle University in USA and a BA degree in Social Sciences from Kenyatta University. He also has Diplomas in Human Resources from Cambridge College in UK, Sales & Marketing from Kenya Institute of Management, and Insurance from the College of Insurance. At Stead First Ltd, He provides leadership in various areas of consulting business to clients across Africa such as: bancassurance strategy, personal financial management, emotional Intelligence, sales people development, retail market strategy, strategy, talent management and succession planning, business and personal performance management and performance Improvement.
Nelson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi in 1979. He has gained extensive training in strategic and general management and has 36 years’ experience in Development finance and Insurance. After a stint of 3 years in development finance, Mr. Kuria started his career in insurance in September 1982 when he joined the then Kenya National Assurance Company. He rose from the position of Assistant Manager in charge of Research to Chief Manager – General Insurance Division.
The crowning of his career in insurance was in The Co-operative Insurance Company of Kenya, now CIC Insurance Group which he joined in 1998 as Chief Manager in charge of Strategy and Business Development, became CEO in 2001 and retired as Group CEO in February 2015.
He is credited with leading the transformation of CIC Insurance from a very small co-operative insurer to the 3rd largest insurer out of 46 insurance companies in Kenya and the leading co-operative insurer in Africa by the time of his retirement.
He has been honored with two awards by the president of Kenya for his contribution in co-operative development (Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW in 2005) and Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS in 2011). In the insurance industry he was honored with the Life Time Achievement Award in 2012 for his role in insurance development in Kenya. In March 2017, Mr. Kuria was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in leadership by the Swiss Management Academy.
He is a past chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers(AKI), Vice Chairman of Federation of Kenya Employers(FKE) and has served as board member of many organizations including; Kenya Re, Takaful Insurance of Africa, International Co-operative & Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF)- UK. He was the first chair of the AIO Microinsurance Working Group.
Currently he is a member of the Presidential Task Force on Parastatal reform, Chair of Smep Microfinance Bank, and Chair of Enwealth Financial Services.
Abigail Simiyu is currently an Independent insurance consultant and agri-business entrepreneur. She has a long technical, practical and experiential life with leading insurance companies in Kenya. While in secular employment at Britam General Insurance Company (Kenya) Ltd From 1995 to 2016, she rose through the ranks to retire in the position of Chief Claims Manager. Prior to that, she has worked in senior claims management responsibilities at Real Insurance Company Ltd; Pan Africa Insurance; Insurance Company of East Africa; and Kenya National Assurance Company Ltd.
She has attended and participated in several courses on insurance and management both locally and abroad; facilitated various trainings locally and presented a paper at the Malawi Insurance Institute of Insurance Annual Conference, 2016. She was a member of the Transformation Management Office (TMO) that oversaw successful integration of the Claims processes of former Britam General business and legacy Real Insurance Company business; member of the Executive Management Committee (EXCO); served on various committees at AKI and IRA.
Presently, she is Director of Abeene Development Company; and Treasurer of Macla Group.
John Kashangaki is a consultant with 20 years of work experience in private sector development consulting, spanning over 15 countries in Africa as well as in the USA. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan School of Engineering and a Master of Public Affairs (MPA), Economics and Public Policy from Princeton University.
John has strong skills in project design, monitoring and evaluation, as well extensive market research/business planning experience for projects in East Africa. He possesses strong experience in agriculture and SME access to finance issues as well as SME advisory support. Further, he has strong experience advising governments in Africa on policies and programmes to enhance access to finance and growth and competitiveness of the business sector, coupled with strong experience advising international firms on market entry strategies into East Africa.
Tom Joseph provides oversight in consultancy and corporate strategy. He has over 16 years rich work experience with track of achievements in manufacturing and service sector. Currently working as Head of OPI/COYA at The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), he has helped organizations conduct diagnostic evaluation of their systems/ processes to become globally competitive thus moving from good to great culminating into the annual recognition during the prestigious Company of the Year Awards (COYA).
He is a highly-focused-motivated business leader and consultant with exceptional leadership and communication skills, punctuated with passion for perfecting world class organizational excellence in companies desiring to be globally competitive. As a team player/leader, he comfortably handles unfamiliar problems and easily adapts to changing environments while enthusing positively those whom he interacts with. Tom is an excellent public speaker emceeing and moderating high profile corporate events.
